How to Use

Seven Steps.
Years of Protection.

Your URBAN TAILOR.® cover is handcrafted to protect your outdoor furniture season after season. How you use it makes the difference. Follow these steps every time you cover and uncover your furniture.

The Three Golden Rules

Clean & Dry
Only cover furniture that is completely clean and dry.
Every 2 Weeks
Lift the cover and let your furniture breathe.
1 Hour
Let furniture acclimatise after uncovering, before you use it.

Step by Step

01
Before Covering
Clean and Dry Your Furniture

Make sure your furniture is completely clean and dry before you put the cover on. Remove leaves, sand, pollen, bird droppings and any other dirt, and wipe away standing water and dew.

Essential: dirt left under a cover holds moisture and can rub into the surface of your furniture. Removing all dirt is the single most important step for protecting both your furniture and your cover.

02
Covering
Place the Cover Over Your Furniture

Unfold the cover on top of the furniture and let it drop over the set in one movement. Pull the hem down evenly on all sides so the cover sits straight and does not pull on any corner.

Your cover has built-in ventilation openings. Keep them free and unobstructed so air can circulate and moisture can escape. Leave the hem a few centimetres above the ground and never seal the cover airtight with extra sheets or tarpaulins.

03
While Covered
Air the Cover Once Every Two Weeks

Once every two weeks, on a dry day, lift or remove the cover and let both the cover and the furniture air out. This releases trapped humidity and prevents condensation, mould and odours from building up. Also check the cover after storms or heavy snowfall and brush off any snow so its weight does not rest on the furniture.

04
After Uncovering
Let Your Furniture Acclimatise for 1 Hour

After removing the cover, leave your furniture uncovered in the open air for at least one hour before using it. This allows condensation and surface moisture that may have formed under the cover to evaporate.

Important: a temperature difference between the air under the cover and the outside air can cause a thin layer of moisture on the furniture. This is a natural physical effect, not a defect. One hour of airing resolves it.

05
Furniture Care
Lightly Clean the Furniture if Needed

After a covered period, some light surface dirt such as dust or fine sand can be present on the furniture. If so, wipe it off with a soft, damp cloth, following the care instructions of your furniture manufacturer.

06
Cover Care
Clean the Cover

Brush off loose dirt first. Then clean the cover with a mild soap solution: a little mild soap in lukewarm water, applied with a soft sponge or cloth. Rinse with clean water.

Never machine wash, tumble dry or iron the cover, and never use a pressure washer, bleach, solvents or abrasive cleaners. These damage the PU coating and shorten the life of the fabric.

07
Storage
Dry Completely, Then Store

Let the cover air-dry completely, inside and out. Fold it loosely and store it in the storage bag included in your Signature Case, in a dry place out of direct sunlight. Never store a damp cover in a closed bag.

Please Note

Correct Use Is a Condition of Our Warranty

A cover protects; it does not replace regular attention to your furniture. These instructions form part of our Terms of Service and Warranty. Damage resulting from not following them, such as moisture, mould, discolouration or marks caused by dirt left under the cover, is not covered. For more detailed care advice, read our Care Guide.
